Would You Like to Play at The Ear?

Payment (or lack thereof)

First off, the Thirsty Ear Pub is a student-run venture that is run primarily on the blood, sweat, and tears of the graduate students who love this joint so darn much. To this end, we keep our prices low low low, to cover basic operation and maintanence costs. This means that, unfortunately, we have no budget to pay the wonderful bands and singers who grace our stage weekly. If you’re still reading, you rock, and we salute your rocking-ness. You are more than welcome to bring CDs / a tip jar / merchandise / baked goods to your gig though.

Time Constraints

We have moved our music night to Tuesdays, starting the 13th of June, 2006. Check the calendar to see what dates are currently open. Also, we can only take acoustic acts from now on. Due to noise complaints, we cannot accept bands with drum kits. If you only need to plug in a guitar or keyboard, however, you’re golden. Acoustic set, 9pm to 11pm. Breaks are at the artist’s discretion. If you’d like to bring a friend along to fill in the set, feel free. Just let the entertainment manager know their name so that we can advertise properly. Doors open at 8p for set up.

Set up / Break down

The doors of the pub open at 8p for loading. If you don’t have much equipment, you can double park on Memorial Dr. by the front door. If, however, you expect to need more than 15 minutes to load, then there is a back door and small lot that you can use. To get there, turn onto Amherst Alley from Massachusetts Ave. Then take a left into a small small lot right after the brick building. You must wait in the loading zone, as all of the parking spots are reserved. Once you’re there, call the pub at (617) 258-9754 and the bartender will be able to let you in. Please see the Map on our Hours/Location page.

When you’re done loading your equipment into the pub, free street parking is available on Massachusetts Ave. and Memorial Dr.

House Equipment

The Thirsty Ear Pub is equipped with a state-of-the-art house PA system. We also have a mixer that interfaces directly to the PA and has 2 mic inputs and four 1/4″ stereo input channels. We have two mics in house, and two mic stands.

Friends and Guests

If you would like to invite your friends to come watch you play, by all means, please ask them! All we ask is that they are 21 or over and can bring a valid ID to vouch for that fact.

Questions?

If you have any other questions or would like to schedule a date, please email ear-info@mit.edu and the entertainment manager will get back to you shortly! Thank you and hope to hear from you soon!
