Performing at the Thirsty Ear Pub
The Thirsty Ear hosts live music every Friday night from 9pm-11pm for our weekly LIVEMusic@theEar event. Interested in having your band perform at the Thirsty Ear? Just send us an email at ear-info@mit.edu, and we’ll work with you to schedule a date.
The Venue
The Thirsty Ear is a newly-constructed pub located in an on-campus residence hall (Ashdown House) at MIT. At 1600 sq. ft., the pub is large enough to accommodate a sizable crowd while not requiring the music to be significantly amplified in order to be heard throughout the entire space — some instruments may not even require any amplification.
Because residences are located above the Thirsty Ear, we request that bands avoid using additional amps and loud percussion.
Set up and Break down
Bands can begin setting up their equipment at 8pm. You can park in any parking space along Albany or Pacific street (see the map here). To enter the Thirsty Ear, enter the building through its main lobby, and inform the worker at the desk that you are performing at the Thirsty Ear Pub. You will be directed from there.
House Equipment
Bands are asked to use our state-of-the-art house PA system. We have a mixer that interfaces directly to the PA system and has six microphone and four 1/4″ stereo input channels. We have four microphones in house, and two microphone stands.
Friends and Guests
If you would like to invite your friends to come watch you play, please ask them! All we ask is that they are over 21 and can bring a valid ID.
Questions?
If you have any other questions or would like to schedule a date, please email ear-info@mit.edu and the entertainment manager will get back to you shortly! Thank you and hope to hear from you soon!
